La Ciotat, the south of France. Antoine attends a summer writing workshop in which a few young people have been selected to write a crime thriller with the help of Olivia, a famous novelist. The creative process will recall the town’s industrial past, a form of nostalgia to which Antoine feels indifferent. More concerned with the fears of the modern world, the young man soon clashes with the group and Olivia, who seems both alarmed and captivated by Antoine’s propensity to violence.


Laurent Cantet

France’s Laurent Cantet won the Cesar for best first feature and the European Film Award for discovery for his first full length feature Human Resources in 1999. With his six subsequent features he became a fixture on the international festival circuit. He won the Palme d’Or in Cannes and an Oscar nomination for best foreign language film for his 2008 schoolroom drama The Class. His other features are Time Out (2001), Heading South (2005), Foxfire: Confessions Of A Girl Gang (2012) and Return To Ithaca (2014). The Workshop had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes this year.
