An imposing black monolith provides a connection between the past and the future in this legendary 1968 adaptation of a short story by revered sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke. When Dr. Dave Bowman and four other scientists are sent on a mysterious mission to Jupiter, their ship’s computer system, HAL 9000, begins to display increasingly strange behavior, leading up to a tense showdown between man and machine that results in a mind-bending trek through space and time.

Stanley Kubrick

One of the most influential and tenacious directors in film history, Stanley Kubrick made his first feature Fear And Desire on a shoestring budget in 1953, followed by another independent Killer’s Kiss in 1955, before he was able to make his first studio movie The Killing in 1956. From then on, he became one of the most distinctive voices working in the English language and his credits are a series of masterpieces: Paths Of Glory (1957), Spartacus (1960), Lolita (1962), Dr Strangelove, Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), A Clockwork Orange (1971), Barry Lyndon (1975), The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999). He died in 1999 before the release of Eyes Wide Shut.
