Teenager Mia works off-the- book at a seaside motel in the coastal city of Xiamen, China. On a slow night she happens to witness a crime that takes place in the motel. For fear of losing her job, she says nothing. Meanwhile, one of the victims, the rebellious Wen, finds that her troubles have only just begun. The two girls whose paths crossed briefly do not know that their fate will be re-written by each other. They will have to find their own way out.


Vivian Qu

Writer, director and producer, Vivian Qu is a key figure in contemporary Chinese independent cinema. Her directorial debut, Trap Street, premiered to critical acclaim at the 70th Venice Film Festival in 2013, and screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide. Angels Wear White, her second feature, had its world premiere in competition at this year’s Venice in September before moving on to play at Toronto, London and many other festivals. In 2014 she produced Black Coal, Thin Ice, which won the Golden Bear at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. Further credits as producer include Night Train (2007 Un Certain Regard, Cannes Film Festival), Knitting (2008 Cannes Director’s Fortnight), and Longing for the Rain (2013 Rotterdam International Film Festival).
